Matthew 7: 1-20
What does judge not mean?  (unfair or self-righteous judgement)
Who are hypocrites?  (we discussed that in that day a hypocrite was someone who wore 2 masks – actors in a play).
We are to judge righteously:  read John 7:24    Judge with ____________   _____________________
We cannot judge a persons motives and “assume” what they meant…sometimes we misunderstand.
How do you know 100% what’s in someone’s heart or their motive? ______________________________
Who are we to judge? (brothers/sisters who are in Christ – or claim to know Christ)
Read 1 Cor. 4:3-4 ….. “the one who examines me is the Lord” ….  Ultimately everything we think and do will be judged.
Who are the dogs and swine?  ________________________
We must discern between believers and non-believers (even those who claim to know, but don’t)
We are to judge false teachers – anyone who says things that are “outside” of scripture and “doesn’t point to Christ”
How to recognize false teachers:
·         They will focus on you/Me and how great “we” are – how powerful “we” are
·         They won’t focus on how great Christ is… for His mercy and saving us (sinners who were enemies of God ….Romans 5:10)  What do we learn?  __________________________________
What does he mean by you….are evil in Matt. 7 vs. 11?  We are not _______________    (Jesus is referencing human’s inability to be good on our own)….
Read Romans 3:10-12  Who is righteous in vs. 10? ________________   Who seeks for God in vs. 11? _____________
How are we to treat people in Matt. 7 Vs. 12? ________________________ ….. Is this a command? ________
What are the 2 gates?  #1 ______________________    #2 ____________________________
Where do they lead?  # 1 ________________________   #2 ___________________________
This is written to professing believers….and Christ is telling them that some are on the broad way.
How many enter through the broad?  _______________  How many through the narrow? _______________
What does Acts 4:12 say about salvation?  _________________________________________
2 gates – vs. 13-14  #1 ______________________    #2 ____________________________
2 ways – vs. 13-14  #1 ______________________    #2 ____________________________

2 groups of people  vs. 13-14  #1 ______________________    #2 ____________________________

2 gates/2ways/2 destinations/ 2 groups of people/ 2 kinds of trees/ 2 kinds of fruit/ 2 groups at judgement
2 kinds of builders (wise/foolish)  / 2 kinds of foundations (rock/sand)
Narrow way…… is on ____________ terms….by faith in Christ
Wide way….. is on __________ terms…..by our self-righteousness and our good works
What if someone says “I’m just not going to believe in anything”?  What path are they on? __________________
Salvation is by grace alone – not “easy believism”.  It calls for knowledge of the truth, repentance, submission to Christ as Lord and a willingness to obey HIS Will and Word.   Christ must be the LORD of your life…..HE  rules your life.
Does Christ rule your life?  _______________  Do you rule your life? _______________________
Would your parents or teachers agree with this? __________________
The Gospel Christ proclaimed was a call to discipleship, a call to follow Him in submissive obedience, not just a plea to make a decision or pray a prayer.
A person’s behavior will show their commitment to Christ.

Vs. 21 Will everyone who say’s to Him, Lord, Lord …..enter His kingdom? __________  He’s referring to people who “think” they are believers….people who are sitting in church today….people who are teaching His Word on TV, Radio and in Pulpits.
Often people are taught that if they “say a prayer”, “walk an aisle”, “sign something” or “get baptized” or had some other experience….then they are a true believer.
