Matthew 10: 1-42
What are the names of the 12 disciples:  _______________________  ____________________

_________________________   ___________________________   ____________________________
_________________________   __________________________   _____________________________

Jesus sends them on a journey to preach and perform miracles.  He calls them and He equips them.  The word apostle or  apostoloi means = “one who is sent out”.

Why in vs. 5 did Jesus instruct them not to go in the way of the Gentiles?  (read Romans 1:16)

They were to go to the  ______________ first with the Gospel message, then the ___________________

Who are Gentiles today? ______________

What are they to preach? (vs. 7) __________________________________________________________

Read Matthew 3:2 ….What does John the Baptist preach ________________________________________

Read Matthew 4:17…What does Jesus preach? _________________________________________________

What should be ready to say to people today? ________________________________________________

What will they be doing as they preach this message?   (see vs. 8)
                ________________ the sick
                _______________ the dead
                _______________ the lepers
                _________   _________  demons

They are not to take money for performing miracles, but they can stay at someone’s house .

In vs. 15…. Who remembers Sodom & Gomorrah from our study of Genesis?  What happened? (Gen. 19)

In vs. 16-27 ….some of these things may not have happened on this first missionary journey….but these are things that will happen in the future.

In vs. 19 Why does HE tell them “Do not worry about how or what you say”?
….for it will be ______________________________ Jesus' disciples could have perfect trust in God in that moment, knowing that He would speak through them even if they were unprepared.

In vs. 29 Who are we to fear?  _________________________  Why are we to fear? _______________________

Who are we to NOT fear? _______________________________________

In vs. 33  “Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven”……what happens if we deny HIM?  ____________________________________________

The disciple must confess Jesus publicly - before men. If we will not be public about our commitment to Him, we cannot expect Him to be public about His commitment to us.

In vs. 34 What does HE mean by a sword?
Read Hebrews 4:12 – What does it tell us about the Word of God? _________________, _____________________,
Sharper than any _______________________________

Read Rev. 1:16 – What comes out of HIS mouth? _________________________________________

Read Rev. 19:15 – What does HE do with the sword? _____________________________________

Ephesians 6:17 – What does it say about the sword?  _____________________________________

In vs. 37 Why does HE mention loved ones?  ______________________________________________

In vs. 38 what does HE say me must take up? _______________________________

Take his cross and follow after Me: The disciple must follow Jesus even to the place of taking his cross. When a person took a cross in Jesus' day, it was for one reason: to die. The ancient Roman cross did not negotiate, did not compromise, and did not make deals. There was no looking back when you took up your cross, and your only hope was in resurrection life.

HE says the same thing in Luke 9:23 “take up your cross”

In vs. 39 What does HE mean by “lose his life”?

Quote from Steve Lawson of One Passion Ministries (former Pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, AL)
“You need to weigh in on the cost factor.
And count the costs of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
It will cost you popularity, it will cost you promotion perhaps at times. It will cost you an easy life. You will have to discipline yourself, you will have to buffet your body. You will have to say “No” to temptation, and you will have to say “No” to this world.”
