Matthew 15

1-14  The Transgression of Elohim’s Commandments vs the Traditions of the Jewish Elders 
Matt 15:1, 2  Who came to ask Jesus questions?                Pharisees and Scribes from Jerusalem
Who were the Pharisees?  Jewish religious leaders who focused on obeying the Law of Moses and sometimes forced their ways on to others. 
Who are the ScribesThey were experts in understanding the Jewish law.  They taught the common people God’s law. 
Matt 15:3  How did Jesus respond to the Pharisees and the Scribes?   He asked them a question
Matt 15:4        God ( the ONE true God)   said we should   honor our parents  !        
What does it mean to     honor       your parents?   Honor:  to price to fix a high value upon To regard with respect and reverence; to reverence; to revere.   
Why did Jesus choose this Commandment?   He values relationships – loving & obeying those over us from the heart.  God the Father Longs, Desires, Wants to have a relationship with us where we long to get to know Him!  We get to know and understand His Heart!  We get to know what brings Him pleasure, we understand His Word and His Ways!
Matt 15:7-14   What happens when we live our lives and we do not value or honor our relationship with YHWY, with our parents, with our family members?                       We worship in vain – wasted effort, we replace Elohim’s Word with the traditions of men and become blind and have a negative impact on those we know and love!
Matt 15:15-20  The Heart of Man 
Matt 15:15-20  Where do our thoughts, words and actions start?   In our inner man, our hearts
Matt 15: 18-20 What does defile mean?    To make unclean; to make dirty,  To make impure;  To pollute;
Matt 15:21-28  Northern Israel   Canaanite woman exercises great faith which is consistent and does not give up
Matt 15:22   What did she ask Jesus to do?   Have mercy upon me!
Matt 15:22  How did she ask Jesus?  She cried out begging for mercy
Matt 15:22  Who needed help?  her   daughter
Matt 15:22  What is mercy?  to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; only towards offenders.   
Who needs mercy?   EVERYONE!!  Share the gospel John 3:16
Matt 15:25,27  How did she make her request to Jesus?   She humbled herself and bowed at His feet as a slave / servant

Matt 15:29-31  Jesus Compassion
Matt 15:30  Who came to Jesus?  The multitudes with their sick, lame and mute – people in great need!
Matt 15:31   What did the multitudes do?  He compassion and healed all of them
Matt 15:32-39  Jesus feeds the 4,000 men & their families
Matt 15:32  What was response did Jesus have towards the multitudes?  He had compassion on them
Matt 15:33,34  What resources, or things available, did Jesus have?  7 loaves and a few small fish
Matt 15:36,37  What did Jesus & the disciples do with the things they had?  Jesus prayed and blessed the food the disciples gave it to the people  whatever God gives us we give back to Him for His glory!

 

 

1.      Matt 15:1,2  Pharisees & Scribes come to question Jesus disciples do not wash hands when they eat bread

2.      Matt 15:3   Jesus asks them why they do not obey the Commands of the ONE True God

3.      Matt 15:4-7 Jesus rebukes them because they disobey the Word of God – ELOHIM but obey their traditions

4.      Matt 15:8-9  Obey on the outside before men But to disobey on the inside – serve men outwardly but we do it just because it is a “rule or it is required”  we are far away from God – they do not have a growing relationship with YHWY

5.      Matt 15:10-11 Jesus calls the multitude to Him man is defiled by what comes out of their mouth no fear of YHWY or reverence for YHWY serve him with words

6.      Matt 15: 12-14   the blind lead the blind, which results in the leader and the follower falling into the pit.

7.      Matt 15:15-20 from the heart comes evil – thoughts, words and actions – because they become a way of life when we no longer have fellowship with YHWY! 

8.      Matt 15:21–28   Canaanite woman exercises persistence and great faith – daughter is healed

9.      Matt 15:29-31 Jesus heals all who are sick, lame, crippled or mute – Brings Glory to The Father

10.  Matt 15:32-35 Jesus has compassion on the multitudes

11.  Matt 15:36    Jesus feeds 4,000 men and their families with 7 loaves of bread and several small fish

12.  Matt 15:37-38  7 large baskets left over
